The future of computing lies in these things. As computing takes a much more active role in our lives it will at the same time become much more invisible. Internet of Things Expo will address the challenges in getting from where we are today to this future.

The high-energy event is a must-attend for senior technologists from CEOs on down – including CIOs, CTOs, directors of infrastructure, VPs of technology, IT directors and managers, network and storage managers, network engineers, enterprise architects, and communications and networking specialists.

@ThingsExpo Power Panel | The World's Many IoTs: Which Are the Most Important?
The Internet of Things is clearly many things: data collection and analytics, wearables, Smart Grids and Smart Cities, the Industrial Internet, and more. Cool platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Intel's Galileo and Edison, and a diverse world of sensors are making the IoT a great toy box for developers in all these areas. In this Power Panel at @ThingsExpo, panelists discussed what things are the most important, which will have the most profound effect on the world, and what should we expect to see over the next couple of years.
Benefits of Attending the Three-Day Technical Program
LEARNexactly why Internet of Things is relevant today from an economic, business and technology standpoint.
HEAR first-hand from industry experts the common issues and requirements for creating a platform for the Internet of Things.
SEE what new tools and approaches the Internet of Things requires.
DISCOVER how to drive a distributed approach to the Internet of Things, where applications move to the data.
FIND OUThow the vast volumes of new data produced by the Internet of Things provides a valuable new source of business insight through advanced analytical techniques.
MASTER how the ongoing development of smart cities, cars, and houses will enhance connectivity infrastructure.
Lunch Power Panel | Microservices & IoT- Moderated by Jason Bloomberg
In this Power Panel at @DevOpsSummit, moderated by Jason Bloomberg, president of Intellyx, panelists Roberto Medrano, Executive Vice President at Akana; Lori MacVittie, Evangelist for F5 Networks; and Troy Topnik, ActiveState's Technical Product Manager; and Otis Gospodnetic, founder of Sematext; peeled away the buzz and discuss the important architectural principles behind implementing IoT solutions for the enterprise. As remote IoT devices and sensors become increasingly intelligent, they become part of our distributed cloud environment, and we must architect and code accordingly. At the very least, you'll have no problem filling in your buzzword bingo cards.

Two Years Later
Two Years Later

(September 11, 2003) - Today marks the second anniversary of the destruction of the World Trade Center, and the attack on the Pentagon and the heroics over that field in Pennsylvania. Last year I wrote a column about what it was like that day, two years ago, to watch in horror as friends and relatives were killed or injured in that despicable act of terrorism. I was asked if we should rerun my column from last year in memorial to that day. Instead, I wanted to say this:

SYS-CON Media is not a political publisher. The issues that SYS-CON covers rarely have anything to do with foreign or domestic policy, rather, they deal with the usual controlled anarchy of the world of information technology. I don't pretend to have all the information or the straight story on what happened on September 11th, or who was to blame or why.

I do know this, however.

I can find articles I've written, translated into Russian, Japanese and Chinese, on the Internet. I have incredible freedom to write and say whatever I wish. I live in a country where freedom of speech is so prevalent, the owners of that great privilege take it for granted as just one of their inalienable rights. The common man in the street feels it is his right, his privilege, his God-given (and I mean that with a capital G), unassailable right to voice his opinion, to disagree with the president, the governor, the mayor, or even the cop who ticketed his car. This is America.

I will not be silent, I will not be humble nor will I be apologetic to a world where this right is seen as a threat to the establishment. Without endorsing a particular party or candidate or incumbent, I endorse the system of government that has led the United States to prominence in the world, even if it irks, annoys, dismays, or frightens other ideologies. So be it.

I believe that all people are entitled to their opinions. That government of the people and by the people is a worthy ideal - worth fighting for, worth dying for, and worth arguing for. I believe that the rule of law, not the rule of terror, frees people to be the best people they can be. I believe terrorism is a plague on humanity, and shall not be endured by any free people.

I believe that on that fateful day, two years ago, ordinary men and women became heroes, and ordinary heroes became icons. On that day, all that America stood for became clear. Government of the People, by the People, and for the People. People, freedom, and family.

A colleague of mine from Australia commented recently that he could not understand the flags that wave from house to house in the United States - it was strange to him; it would not occur to him, nor to most Australians to fly their flag over their own homes. I told him that I understood that - it had not occurred to many of us before September 11th. But since then we've grown as a nation - we realize that we have differences, but whatever those differences, the protection and preservation of our liberties, and the sacredness of our families, of all faiths and creeds, drives us to fly the flag that represents our common belief in our system of government. A government that, if flawed, is at least free and representative of our people. May God grant peace to the families of all those who lost loved ones two years ago, or in defense of our nation since then. God bless our families and God Bless America.

Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

We have forgotten how to fear Him and that this nation was founded by men who did. The ideals of freedom are God inspired. Shortly after September 11th we seemed to go back to that at least a little bit. Seeing evil caused us to run to what is good. God bless you for your convictions and acknowledgement of the God of the universe.

Thanks to blessed USA :
Older september 11th.
Another rule of law example.

Chile, septembre 11th 1973.

In 1973, during three years, the world had the glances fixed on the Chile. A single experiment proceeded at the end of the Latin America. For the first time, indeed, a Head of State regularly elected, with honest, Salvador Allende, tried a "revolution in legality". Its project to carry out the country towards socialism rested, not on rifles but on the only democratic weapons of the legal apparatus in place. Marx had not envisaged this new case. If it succeeded, the Chilean example was likely to make oil task, to be used as model. Too much dangerous for the United States fearing the contagion of "second Cuba" in the American hemisphere considered as "drive out-kept". With tenacity, Washington will organize against Chile a financial and economic blockade, liberally supporting the forces of right-hand side until the brutal coup d'etat of the General Pinochet, September 11, 1973. This book, made up mainly of the articles published in the World of 1971 to 1973 is a revenge on the books burned by the dictatorship. When the soldiers of the Junta organize autodafe in the streets, they believe to disencumber the country of its memory. Error. Hidden, during years, traumatized by repression, this driven back memory re-appears today, claimed by rising generation"

The only rules of USA : imperialism and capitalism.

I totally agree it?s an event that has changed all our lives in some way or another.

NOTHING can replace the loss to those families that have lost loved ones. But the loss is the loss of all not just the US. The US is a symbol of freedom, true democracy the right to disagree and live in peace, something we value above everything else.

How could such a thing occur with the intelligence, technology ? etc the US has is a matter for REAL DEBATE and two years on should have real ANSWERS. If our quest for capitalism has driven us to the point where we compromise a person?s right of freedom to make a quick buck God help us all. My deepest sympathies go out to those families that lost there loved ones as nothing we say or do can bring back those loved ones. I can only hope that the true capabilities of a nation that is symbol to all of what is true and right, a nation that can send a man to the moon, a nation that with its persistence and tenacity brought down the Berlin wall without firing a single shot! And a nation that brought the cold war to a halt through diplomacy is capable of preventing these ?fanatical? individuals from causing any further accidents.

?Blessed are the peace makers?
http://www.mediamonitors.net/khodr74.html

This seems to be the mantra of religious fundamentalists all over the world, be they Osama bin Laden, George W. Bush or surprisingly Sean Rhody. I personally find it repulsing that horrible atrocity like the terrorist attack in New York is used as an excuse to massacre innocent civilians in Iraq, which had absolutely nothing to do with the 9-11. I find it even more repulsing when people praise God (even with a big G), while they are maiming and killing children in far-away countries. And then, always end the chest beating scream with the mantra ?God Bless America.? (didn?t the terrorists call out ?God is Great? when they killed the innocent on September 11?). And then you American are surprised that people around the world seem to resent you. Really.

Terror is terrible. So is hunger, rape, racism, .... But if I want to talk about this I go to some dedicated forum/site.
Stick to your subject pls !

This article is well written and I agree whole-heartedly with the sentiments.

As a non-American I can say that the US has lead the way in establishing the rights of individuals all over the world to live without persecution.

Freedom is worth fighting for.

I don't pretend to have all the information or the straight story on what happened on September 11th, or who was to blame or why.

I do know this, however.

September 11th has been used as an excuse by America to dismiss global insititutions such as the UN and to start an illegal war and kill over 6000 Iraqi civilians and injure over 20000 civilians.

I do also know that no weapons of mass destruction have been found, that no link between Iraq and Al Qaida has been proven, and that the world is now even even more dangerous place because of the actions of America taken since September 11th.

The nationalistic sentiments expressed in your post also lead to the mistaken view that American lives are more percious than other nationalities.

If killing and terrorizing INNOCENT Irakii people which have nothing in common with Al Qaida (I remember you that it's Al Qaida extremists which destroyed and killed 2 years ago, based in Afghanistan and never recognized by Irak) is the rule of Law then God bless USA.
Search and destroy terrorists from Al Qaida : very good.
Destroy a country to get its petroleum for G. Bush and his friends : very bad.

Thank you for your faith in our country and your support of President Bush and all the soldiers fighting for our freedoms. Your article reminded me of some great essays found at the link below: http://www.ejectejecteject.com

May God continue to bless America.

Thanks for taking the time to write your letter. As I had a flag flying since 9-11-01, I am proud of our country. Yes, you are right it is flawed but it is still the best. There have been many people who died for this country and continue to do say. Thanks for having the balls to say the truth. I am proud to serve in National Guard it is the least I can do for my country

I am glad someone in the Corporate world is standing up for what they believe in. We need more people with integrity to stand up and be counted even when the Politically Correct and other Lost people of this world don't like it!

Long Live America!

Since that fatefull day two years ago, I have grown as many Americans have. Americans are independent people who believe in liberty and justice for all, freedom of speech and all the wonderful liberties you mention in your article. In difficult and challenging times we become even more united and our power of strength grows exponentially. Instead of dividing us, the horrific terrorist attacks served as a powerful glue that created an even more powerful people determined to protect our inaliable rights and no matter our differences in faiths and creeds the American flag is the common thread amongst us all. The American flag represents our dreams, our hopes and our convictions and this is what drives us to fly the flag that represents one Nation, under God, Indivisible with Liberty and Justice for all. It is the common thread that makes us all the same.....Americans.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
